A New Look and More Content

After three and a half years of running this site (wow!) we decided it was time for an update. In truth, we decided it was time for an update about a year ago, but between travel and work things sort of... fell through the cracks.

So many updates! Twenty Years Hence 3.0 has arrived!

After three and a half years of running this site (wow!) we decided it was time for an update. In truth, we decided it was time for an update about a year ago, but between travel and work things sort of… fell through the cracks. As many of you may know (if we’ve been doing our job right) we’ve been growing our web design and digital marketing business and as our portfolio of clients grew along with our site’s content (and potential content) we knew we needed a better portal to the endeavors we’ve been pouring our hearts into.

We had some work to do.

First and foremost, our previous theme was a hot mess on mobile. Beyond that, the amount of content we have has grown exponentially since the debut of our last theme, and the seams were starting to creak with the effort of containing it. We saw that it just wasn’t very easy to find our older content, nor was it easy to find our other resources. So, to that end, we finally updated our look and added a ton of new content while we were at it. This new framework is custom-built by us, from the ground up, and gives us more flexibility by an order of magnitude. We know our site will continue to grow, and that we’ll keep adding new features and content, and this new platform will make it so much easier for our readers to find it all.

So, what all have we done?

So many photos.

This is a huge one. We’ve shot well over 70,000 photos since we’ve been traveling and thus far only a tiny fraction of them have made it to the site. We’ve been back on this side of the world for over a year now (wow again!) and we’ve still barely scratched the surface when it comes to writing about our nearly two years in Asia. So, while we play catch-up with all of our long-overdue posts, you can sift through our photos from the last three years and get a feel for what’s coming. We’ve uploaded at least a thousand photos spanning nearly every location we’ve visited, with many, many more to come. Check back often, as the galleries will be constantly expanding and updating.

So many destinations.

While we haven’t written about everything, we’ve certainly logged it in one capacity or another. If you want a visual representation of where we’ve been, along with the relevant content associated with each place, check out our new interactive map on our destinations page. Click a pin to find out more about that destination.

Also, we’ve updated our Lodgings by Country page with a new, more user-friendly look. It’s a growing list that will eventually contain a basic guide to everywhere we stayed while abroad (it has quite a few places already!).

So much work.

We’ve been busy in the last year. Not only have we been cooking up this little gem, but we’ve been rapidly building our online business as well. Now if you’re in the market for a website, graphic design, freelance writing, or Google AdWords online marketing services you can learn all about how we do what we do right here on this website. You can also see a lot of our most recent work (with more coming soon!) to get a feel for what we have done for our other clients.

So much everything.

We’ve revamped our homepage and menu to provide more access to everything we offer. It’s easier to find our newer and older posts and we’ve added some fun categories to inspire new and old readers alike. Also, the new theme is completely mobile responsive, so we say to you, mobile (and tablet… phablet?) users: browse away!

We just couldn’t be more excited about all of this, and we hope you love it.

Since our site is so big now and is always a work in progress, if you find anything that seems out of place, or doesn’t work, don’t hesitate to let us know!

Thanks so much for taking the time to visit and read our stories, after all, you’re why we do all this in the first place!

Thanks so much for checking in with us! We know we’ve let the content slide a bit, but we had a lot of good excuses! The new theme has certainly lit a fire under us, that’s for sure!

Double thanks! We’ve been putting our backs into it, that’s for sure. Nothing’s a given, but we’ve been very fortunate thus far!

  5. Congrats on the new site!

Just curious, if you are writing a post about something you visited two years ago (as you mentioned with your Asia trip), you must have a way for keeping notes and such while traveling…for someone like me with a horrible memory, any tips would be great!

    1. During our travels, I have always kept a personal journal, where I keep bullet-point notes from each day. I just jot down whatever my main impressions or important reflections of the day were, and mention the big things we saw or did, as well as anything particularly memorable that transpired. I do tend to keep these more in bullet-point form so that I don’t feel the pressure to sit down and write super well-crafted sentences or devote tons of time to it (I save that for when I’m writing up our posts!); it’s something I will do in 15 minutes or so before bed. These notes paired with our photos are pretty much all I need to jog my memory, and of course, some of our experiences are ones I’ll never forget (but it is nice to pull up my notes and be immediately struck by my own thoughts on what I was feeling or what made the greatest impression of me at the time too!).

Yeah, things have been quiet on our end, but we’re working on changing that. Finding that balance between paid work, free work and free time is tricky, but we’re getting there. Thanks for coming back, we’ll make it worth your while, we promise!

  7. Looks great! I recently bought a new theme for my site, and I can completely understand how much work goes into it, even without writing everything from scratch like you guys did. Congrats!
