The Northern Lights

It’s only natural to want to share your passion for travel with your family but if you want to ‘show not tell’ then giving them a vacation as a present is one of the best ways to do this. If your parents don’t quite get your love of all things exotic then it may be time to open their eyes with a trip that includes some inspirational experiences. Have you thought about a trip to see the Northern Lights in Norway? This beguiling destination will inspire a love of travel in even the most settled homebird.

Norwegian Delights

The Northern Lights are an elusive but dazzling spectacle and Norway is one of the best places on earth to catch this natural light show. One glimpse of the aurora borealis will be all it takes to shine a light on the joys of travel. To increase your chances of seeing the lights it’s best to arrive between late autumn and early spring. Between 9pm and 2am is thought to be the prime viewing time to see this remarkable sight. Of course seeing the show is never guaranteed so it’s important to have a few other activities planned. Why not relax on an evening cruise through the famous Sognefjord, the longest and deepest fjord in the country?

Book The Right Accommodation

To further increase your chances of catching the lights make sure to book accommodation in a prime spot. Travel companies will recommend hotels in locations such as the Lofoten Islands, where spectacular mountain scenery and charming villages combine to provide the ideal spot to view the dark night sky. Tromso, known as the capital of the Arctic, is another spectacular Norwegian destination surrounded by islands, fjords and mountains. This is an excellent city location with plenty of trips available including whale watching and Northern Light tours.

Why Travel?

Those who have visited the far reaches of the northern hemisphere and viewed the ethereal Northern Lights say it’s one of life’s unforgettable moments. Once your parents have experienced it first-hand they’ll no doubt be able to fully understand why travelling to new destinations is one of the most exciting things a person can do.

Exploring the world isn’t for everyone and for those who fully embrace the travelling lifestyle it’s sometimes hard to convince others of the unique joys of setting off to someplace new. Journeying around the globe can give you the chance to mix with new cultures, see iconic sights in person or simply sense the freedom that comes through travel. If you’re trying to convince your parents why travel is such a positive life experience then there’s no better way than giving a vacation as a gift.
